San Diego County Fair

Sunday, after the church service, a bunch church friends and I went to the annual SD County Fair, which is also known as Del Mar Fair. The fair isn’t new to me. During my 9 years living here at San Diego, I attended this fair more than couple of times. The fair consists of food vendors, thrill rides, various games, animals, and also other merchandise vendors. We arrived at the fair around 4:30pm. The sun was still strong, the air was hot and the fair was crowded.
We started walking between the food vendors, and pretty soon we gave in to the temptation of all the delicious food. We shared a large bag of kettle corn, and I purchased a foot-long corn dog. The corn dog was greasy but it was yummy. I was tempted to get another one but I resisted.
There was a ride at fair named Skycoaster. I can’t describe it precisely what it is, so I searched around online to find a better description. Here is what I found that precisely describes what it is.
Flyers on the Skycoaster are held aloft by two 9000 pound stainless steel aircraft cables. They are then hoisted to the top of the 150 ft. launch tower where they release themselves with a parachute-style rip cord. After a “Zero G” free fall the flyers swoop at speeds up to 70 mph then recover barely 6 ft. off the ground, and climb back again for a thrilling stall in mid-air. Skycoaster can be flown by 1, 2, or 3 people at a time.
After 2 groups of three people went on it, we went from “no way” to “maybe I should try”. My friends who went it liked it very much, and recommended me to try. So we gave in, and my girl and I went on the ride, our first Skycoaster ride. I was the one assigned to pull the release cord.
It was thrilling and scary, but I am glad that I went on it. I liked it and it was a quite an experience. I have proven once again that I am a brave and adventurous man.

I too, have ridden the Skycoaster. It was my duty to pull to ripcord and it was a frightening but enjoyable experience. I would do it again any day if didn’t cost like it did when I rode it.

@aline: BBQ corns, and they are delicious! I didn’t have any, but I watched my friend eating it with a satisfying smile on her face.
