Society for Neuroscience 2004 II

It is day three for me at SFN2004, already familiarized with faces of my neighboring exhibitors. The attendance is not as high as in the previous days, but still enough to fill the enormous exhibition hall. Someone told me that we are expecting a storm this afternoon at 2pm, but it is still sunny outside, just like any other days in San Diego.

There is a very interesting booth that I need to mention here. I don’t know the name of the institution or perhaps a company. They placed live-size pictures of each president candidate in front of their booth, and they offered visitor to take a picture with their preferred candidate. In addition they also placed a whiteboard for people to cast their votes, with a small label underneath “not very scientific”. The booth attracted many people, considering that it is a scientific convention this booth definitely appears to be unique and interesting, or maybe little bit out of place. It is like injecting a shot of reality into a world of intellectuals.

Anyway, it has become my routine lately to go check the booth everyday and check on the votes. First day, Bush only had three votes and Kerry had 4 pages of votes. Second day, Bush had one page full of votes, but Kerry had so many votes that they run out of page. Today, when I checked the booth in the morning, for some reason the whiteboard is no longer there. Maybe it is too political, and they had to take it out.
