5 Centimeters Per Second

Have you ever seen the cherry blossoms fall? Have you ever wondered how fast are they falling? “5 centimeters per second.” Akari informed us in the animated film by Makoto Shinkai. 5 Centimeters Per Second, perhaps, it is the exact velocity we drift away from each other in life. We started together, but life leads us in different ways. Although love persists, but it is exactly this love that makes our hearts ache, makes us feel lonely, makes us feel motivated, and in the end makes us human.

5 Centimeters Per Second

5 Centimeters Per Second is a poetic and beautiful animated film, which attempts to present the real world and struggles we experience in lives from a different perspective. The film consists of three episodes revolving around three main characters. From the stories of these characters, the film attempts to capture emotions in life, and sometimes the sense of helplessness in our destinies.

After watching the 45-second teaser and the first episode on YouTube, I admit that I am touched. Although the pace is slow, and there is not many motions during the film, but somehow the film feels dense and an almost insufferable melancholy. I am definitely looking forward to watch the entire film.

First Episode: Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3.
