Thank God! The upgrade process was overall smooth, I did the upgrade last night and only encountered few errors. After the upgrade, fortunately all of my active plug-ins were operational. With the new feature in WordPress 2.3, several plug-ins were detected to be obsolete, so I installed the latest version for these plug-ins. I think this is a great feature, much easier for the blog owner to keep all the plug-ins updated, or at least to know that there are updates. As far as for my current theme, I encountered two errors on the index.php, related to two database queries to obtain category IDs of my asides and noteworthy posts. I read about the changes in database tables and fix the queries myself, and it seems to be fine now. Lastly, I am still holding off on the tag usage. I did not convert all my categories into tags, and I still do not know whether I will use tags, perhaps a combination of both. I would like to read more about other bloggers’ opinions on the best usage, after that I will make my decision.

My upgrade went smooth as well. I just imported all my UTW tags by going to import in the Dash. Was a very simple 5 step process and went flawlessly.

Ideally, I would like to use both category and tag, but I am too lazy to go back and tag hundreds of my old posts. So for the time being, I am still gonna use just category.

Tags really help with your site rank. You should consider finding time to do it. I have three posts ranked in the top 10 on google, MSN, and Yahoo just from tagging. ;)

I think I will do it soon buddy, but first I need to re-organize my categories, need to merge some and get rid of some, so the number of categories will no longer be 22.

I personally have over 40 I think. Maybe a bit less. haha. But I use them all so its not a big deal. I hear though less categories are better.

Thanks Jeff! For the noteworthy feature, I never used the plugin, instead I used the custom function which was originally included in the Fauna theme, then in the index.php I included a query to identify the category ID. Anyway, if you need more help, I can provide you the code that I have.

That’d be great man, I just took a look at the noteworthy plugin code, and it’ll take me a while to work it out, any code to get me started down the right path would be awesome. Cheers!
