Jailbreak iPod Touch 1.1.4

Thanks to Jeremy for posting the update on the repository to install January Software Apps! This post is edited on May 2nd, 2008.

Now that I have done it, I can finally share my procedure with you, and I hope to make your jailbreaking experience easier. It has been almost 6 months since my last jailbreak, and it was done on firmware 1.1.1. This time the jailbreak is done on firmware 1.1.4 on my 8GB iPod touch, so the first thing to do is to restore my jailbroken iPod touch and update the firmware to 1.1.4. Be aware that restoring your previously jailbroken iPod touch will erase everything in your device, and it is irreversible.

Restore iPod touch

  1. Connect your iPod touch to iTunes, if your iTunes is updated and asks you to update the firmware of the connected iPod touch, please select “No”.
  2. Hold the Home button and Lock button, ignore the Power Off screen.
  3. When you see the Apple logo, release the Lock button and continue to hold the Home button.
  4. Release the Home button when you see the recovery mode image on iPod touch.
  5. Now, iTunes recognizes the recovery mode, and follow its instruction to restore your iPod touch.

Jailbreak Using ZiPhone 3.0

Once you have your iPod touch restored, then proceed with the firmware update through iTunes, so you end up with a clean iPod touch running on firmware 1.1.4. Now, we can start to jailbreak it, and it is very simple. For me, I used ZiPhone on my MacBook Pro. I downloaded the software, which is on version 3.0 right now, and it looks like this:

ZiPhone GUI

With your iPod touch still connected, quit your iTunes, and click the Jailbreak button. Be patient, and wait till the Progress Log shows “Jailbreak completed and successful!” text. Done!

After Jailbreak

Now you have a jailbroken iPod touch, but there are a few things left to do. On the home screen, you will see installer and also the logo of ZiPhone, which is a webclip to the web site of ZiPhone, in order to get rid of it you need to download the apps from Apple.

  1. Go into the installer, and add this source:
  2. Install All Applications iPhone Apps + Wiggle in iPhone 1.1.4 Apps for iTouch iPod Touched folder
  3. Restart your iPod touch

After restart, you will find all the applications in Apple’s January Software Pack installed on your iPod touch. Now, you can tap and hold any icons in home screen until all the icons start to wiggle, then you can choose to delete the ZiPhone webclip. Finally, you have a perfect jailbroken iPod touch running on firmware 1.1.4!
