I became interested of this movie after watching the trailer. The storyline is bizarre, to some extent a bit freaky, but I guess these are the exact qualities that drew me to this movie. “A delusional young guy strikes up an unconventional relationship with a doll he finds on the Internet.” Now, wouldn’t you be curious about this movie? After watching it on DVD, it turns out to be a gem. Ryan Gosling delivered a powerful performance. His acting as the deluded young man is convincing, humane and at times funny. I specially love the ending of this movie, it lifts your spirit up and it makes your day seem sunnier.

Besides the good actings of the casts, and the unconventional plot, this movie also carries certain depth and some positive messages. To name a few, it makes you think about compassion, love, understanding and acceptance. Even today, I think we can still have more of these qualities among out communities. Furthermore, it makes you think about inter-personal relationships and intimacy, how often we view these things with pain and fear, and how we can overcome these feelings or perhaps help other to overcome them. So, if you haven’t seen it, rent it and watch it!

I was going to write couple more movie reviews on Monday, but my heart and mind were not up for it. I tried to compose sentences in my mind, but I just keep thinking about the people buried under the rubble, especially the students. I am sure by now everyone knows what event I am referring to. The 7.9 earthquake that shook the central region of China was horrific. The devastation is unimaginable. As the rescue missions are underway, we slowly uncover the severity of this disaster and the increasing number of lives lost. What shocked me the most are the photos and the news of the students. Many schools were destroyed, and left many students and teachers buried under the rubbles. Looking at the photos posted online, it is really hard not to get emotional and get heartaches. I sincerely urge everyone to pray for the people in the disaster area and to pray for the families who lost their loved ones.
